
For Sameer Wilfred Kerketta, an interest in technology began long before he entered higher education. Born and brought up in Delhi, Sameer pursued a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, while his curiosity about robotics and automation continued to grow.
From researching robotics projects on YouTube to learning about coding and industrial machines, he gradually developed an interest in combining mechanical engineering with emerging technologies. His learning journey with PW and IIT Patna has now allowed him to explore these interests further while continuing his education.
Sameer's interest in technology was not limited to his academic curriculum. Since childhood, he was curious about robotics and often used online resources to understand how different technologies worked.
Reflecting on where his interest began, Sameer said:
"Since childhood, I was interested in robotics and I used to do a lot of research on YouTube on how to initiate more in robotics and move forward."
This curiosity encouraged him to explore areas beyond mechanical engineering. He began using YouTube to learn about coding and understand how different industrial machines could be controlled.
As his interest in robotics grew, Sameer started researching different technologies related to automation and machine control. His learning included exploring coding as well as industrial equipment such as FANUC robots, CNC machines, and VMC machines.
He explained:
"So I did a lot of research on how to do coding on YouTube, how to control a FANUC 6-axis robot, CNC, VMC machine."
These self-learning efforts helped Sameer understand the connection between mechanical systems, programming, and automation. For him, technology was not simply an academic subject but an area he genuinely enjoyed exploring.
As technology continues to evolve, Sameer has also started looking at Artificial Intelligence as an area that could complement his existing interests and contribute to his career growth.
Sharing his perspective, he said:
"I believe that in the near future, AI is a booming market and it will give a lot of boost to my career."
His interest in AI reflects his broader approach to learning. With a background in mechanical engineering and an early interest in robotics and automation, exploring AI gives him another opportunity to understand technologies that are shaping modern industries.
Alongside his technical learning, Sameer is also pursuing French and believes that maintaining a balance between education and other activities is important.
He said:
"Well, I am learning French also and I believe that there should be a work-education balance and it's an UGC approved course and I am able to manage the timings of my classes."
The flexibility of managing his classes allows Sameer to continue learning while making time for other interests. His approach highlights how learning can fit alongside personal development when students manage their time effectively.
For Sameer, the journey is not limited to earning a qualification. His interest in robotics, coding, automation, and AI continues to shape the areas he wants to explore professionally.
His experience shows how curiosity can encourage learners to go beyond their primary academic background and explore emerging technologies. By combining his mechanical engineering foundation with continued learning in technology and AI, Sameer is working toward building a career that aligns with his long-standing interests.
