What Are Employers Planning for MBA Hiring in 2026?

This section shows the full distribution of employer plans, rather than focusing only on the increase in hiring.

The 2026 hiring outlook for MBA graduates is divided across four groups. 36% of employers plan to increase MBA hiring, 42% plan to keep hiring at the same level, 11% plan to hire less, and 11% do not plan to hire MBA graduates.

Global Employer Plans for MBA Hiring in 2026

This means that 78% of surveyed employers either planned to increase or maintain their MBA hiring levels in 2026. The finding indicates that MBA recruitment remains part of hiring plans for a substantial share of employers surveyed.

MBA Hiring Outlook Compared With Other Business Degrees

The MBA was one of the degree types for which employers reported substantial planned hiring growth in 2026.

GMAC's survey shows that 36% of employers planned to increase MBA hiring, while 21% planned to increase hiring of Master in Management graduates and 24% planned to increase hiring of Master of Accounting graduates.

The report also notes that generalist MBA talent typically appeals to a wider range of organisations than graduates of more specialised business master's programmes. This difference should therefore be considered when comparing hiring plans across degree types.

Employers Continue to Have Confidence in Graduate Business Education

GMAC reports that 100% of employers surveyed expressed confidence in graduate management education's ability to prepare students for success in their organisations. At the same time, the report identifies changes in how employers assess some qualities of today's graduates.

The finding is relevant for MBA aspirants because hiring demand is only one part of the picture. Employers are also looking at whether graduates have the skills needed to work effectively in changing organisations.

Communication and Problem-Solving Remain Important for MBA Graduates

This section explains why an MBA's value in the current job market is not limited to technical or AI knowledge.

The 2026 survey found that communication, problem-solving and adaptability were among the skills employers valued most when hiring business school graduates. Data analysis and interpretation, strategic thinking and technology-related skills were also important.

AI is changing the skill mix, but employers are not looking only for candidates who can use AI tools. They also need graduates who can interpret information, solve business problems and communicate decisions.

For MBA aspirants, this makes it useful to look at an MBA as a combination of business knowledge, analytical ability, technology awareness and interpersonal skills.

AI Skills Are Becoming Part of the MBA Skill Set

This section connects the MBA hiring outlook with the report's findings on how AI is changing employer expectations.

The survey found that skills using AI tools, data analysis and interpretation, and other technology/IT skills recorded some of the largest increases in importance compared with the previous year.

Employers also expect AI-related skills to grow substantially in importance over the next five years. This means future MBA graduates may increasingly need to understand how AI can be used in business tasks rather than treating it as a separate technical skill.

What Does the 2026 MBA Hiring Outlook Mean for Aspirants?

The survey suggests that MBA aspirants should look beyond the number of jobs and focus on the skills employers increasingly expect from business graduates.

The 2026 GMAC data points to several areas that MBA aspirants can pay attention to:

  • Build AI literacy: Learn how AI tools can support business research, analysis and routine tasks with programmes such as the IIM Kashipur Executive Development Programme in AI & ML.

  • Strengthen data skills: Develop the ability to interpret data and turn findings into business insights.

  • Improve communication: Practise presenting ideas clearly and explaining business decisions.

  • Develop problem-solving skills: Work on real business cases rather than focusing only on theoretical concepts.

  • Build adaptability: Stay prepared to learn new technologies and respond to changing workplace requirements.

  • Gain practical exposure: Projects, internships and real-world business problems can help connect classroom learning with workplace applications.

MBA Hiring Outlook Shows Demand Alongside Changing Expectations

The GMAC 2026 survey presents an MBA hiring outlook in which many employers plan to maintain or increase recruitment, while the skills expected from graduates are also changing.

With 36% of surveyed employers planning to increase MBA hiring and another 42% planning to maintain their hiring levels, the 2026 data shows continued employer demand for MBA talent among the organisations surveyed.

At the same time, the workplace is changing through AI, data-driven decision-making and new technology. For MBA aspirants, this means preparing for the degree is not only about earning a qualification. It also involves developing the business, analytical, technological and communication skills that employers say they need.

The report provides an employer-side view of the MBA market in 2026, but individual hiring outcomes can still vary by industry, region, organisation, role and economic conditions.
